Eastern Lancaster County Libray auction raises $54,000 BY CAROLE DECK, Correspondent Lower attendance and less money raised didn't dampen the spirits of those attending the annual Eastern Lancaster County Library Dinner Auction on Jan.
16.
Even with folks watching their finances these days, the dinner auction raised an impressive $54,000.
The economy undoubtedly played a role, though, as the figure was lower than past years. The event raised $58,000 in 2009; $83,000 in 2008 and $81,000 in 2007.
Auctioneers Don Welsh and Patrick Morgan auctioned off more than 120 items over three hours. As in previous years, Welsh sold the two ties he was wearing. They brought $250 and $100.
Other winning bids included $400 for a 60-pound chicken statue created by Tom O'Neill; $2,300 for a custom rifle; and $1,500 for a golf weekend in Ocean City, Md.
A percentage of the auction proceeds will go to the New Holland Historical Society.
